Live Shelving

Description

Live Shelving, often referred to as Carton Flow or Bin Flow System, is an exceptionally efficient order-picking solution that maximizes storage density. This system features a slanted platform equipped with rollers that utilize gravity to facilitate the movement of goods. Products are loaded from one end of the rack and effortlessly slide to the opposite end (the picking end) due to the gravitational pull on the rollers.

This shelving system promotes excellent stock turnover by adhering to the First In First Out (FIFO) inventory principle, ensuring that the first items stored are the first to be picked. Live Shelving is particularly suitable for warehouses requiring automatic inventory rotation. The design allows for separate loading and unloading operations, minimizing interruptions during order-picking, which significantly enhances order preparation speed at both ends.

By eliminating the need for intermediate aisles, the Carton Flow system is notably compact and space-efficient, effectively reducing costly floor space requirements. An additional advantage of this system is that all stock-keeping units (SKUs) are positioned at the front of the rack, decreasing order-picking time and minimizing errors, thus making the system highly efficient. Live Shelving is also versatile and can be integrated with conveyors and automated systems like Put to Light and Pick to Light to further improve order-picking efficiency. These systems use lights to indicate how many units to deposit or pick from specific racks, streamlining the order preparation process and reducing reliance on paperwork.
